Unfortunately, today, we no longer live in a society where people leave their doors unlocked at night, and therefore there are several personal protection devices on the market today to keep you safe while inside your home and outside. Keep in mind these devices are aimed at not being a hero, but they are to stun the attacker or invader so that you can safely get away and get help. The idea is if you are attacked to aim the pepper spray directly into the eyes of the attacker, this is cayenne pepper and it will leave them totally out of commission for long enough for you to scream and run as far away from the attacker as you can. One of the problems with the pepper spray personal protection is that it only works if you can get it in the attacker's eyes, so if someone comes up from behind you, this could leave you unable to spray.

One of the newest personal protection devices is the Taser gun, which delivers a high voltage of electricity to the attacker and will take down even the biggest of attackers. It is painful, and therefore, Tasers should never be played with or given to young children, the idea is to use the Taser so that you can get away from your attacker because adrenaline with the attacker can literally make him or her feel the shock less than if someone was not high on an adrenaline rush.

The one thing that often will scare a would-be attacker away is with the use of a loud whistle, which one of those personal protection devices that you simply cannot afford to be without. It attaches to your key chain and in the even you are in trouble, blow the whistle as loud as you can and continue doing so, typically the loud noise, will either cause the attacker to flee or give you a chance to run while blowing the whistle. These are cheap and offer a powerful electronic whistling sound that will get people's attention.

When it comes to personal protection devices, there are several devices you can choose from, but remember the purpose of these are to give you enough time to get away from your attacker and find help or get safely inside your car or home. Never attempt to "take on" the attacker simply because you have a device, rather, use it to get as far away as you possibly can.
