Personal Protection Items
It seems we all need to carry more of our personal possessions around with us these days
. For women it seems like bigger purses with bigger pockets on them. And today men have so much that they need to take with them - that it is not uncommon to see men a man bag. You can be sure that a thief will notice that and you are a big big risk. Wheather it be a common thief or a purse or bag snatcher, you have their attention. You have been marked big bull's eye.
What may be in your hand bag, purse or your pocket may be invaluable to you but police give real simple advice for hanging onto these possessions. Take only what you need! Cash, checkbooks, credit cards, personal organizers and mobile phones are just some of the everyday items that are sorely missed if they are stolen. Do not carry all of these - only what is needed at the time.
Learn to minimize the amount of possessions you carry with you. If you don't need a camera, don't take! Brand new digital cameras are so expensive and very enticing to the thief. Cash and credit cards are even better because that is instant money to the purse snatcher. AGAIN CARRY WHAT YOU NEED AT THE TIME.
In malls and on crowded streets the purse snatcher and also the pick pocket find this heaven to for their thieving ways. Keep the purse close to you. Ensure the shoulder strap is across your chest. This makes it harder for the purse snatcher to pull your purse away from you. Keep your wallet on the inside of your jacket or in the front pocket of your trousers. If you are a man, never carry your wallet and check book in your back pockets of your pants. Pick pocket thieves like this. Pockets you can zip or button are best. Check every now and then to make sure you still have your wallet or purse on you, but don't make this too obvious as pickpockets can spot you doing this.
Out of sight out of mind is a good theory to keep in mind. Keep possessions out of sight (like cell phones) - in a zipped up pocket is best. Keep the zip or opening towards you. Be aware that back-pack style bags are especially vulnerable to thieves. And lastly keep and eye out for people in your surroundings. There is where you will find the thief.
Do not leave your bag unattended in a public place, such as in a pub, coffee bar or shop. If you're trying on shoes in a shop for example, don't walk even a short distance away from your bag. Keep it with you or ask the shop assistant to hold it for you.
Try to appear relaxed, but at the same time be thoughtful about your surroundings. Pick pockets like busy streets and crowded places, and someone bumping into you could well be a pickpocket. If this happens, check you still have your things with you, but again don't make it too obvious that you're doing this.
The very worst type of thief is the one that pulls out a deadly weapon ( knife or hand gun) demanding your cash or credit cards. Do not be macho or stupid and try to overcome the attacker/thief. If the thief has pulled a deadly weapon out on you, they are prepared and ready to use that weapon to protect themself. Just do what the thief wants. When the thief has left, call 911 immediatly.
Always put your safety first. To help you, there are non leathal defensive weapons you can carry. A pepper spray sprayed into the thief's face will cause the swelling of the mucous membranes causing breathing difficulties and swelling & burning of the eyes. This slams the eyes shut with an uncontrolable coughing and choking. This will give you about 15 or so minutes to get out of the situation.
You can carry a stun gun to protect yourself. The stun gun doesn't depend on creating pain, but dumps an electrical shock consisting of high voltage low amperage. This creates rapid work for the attacker's body depleting blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. In a nut shell, the body is not able to produce the required energy for its muscles, therefore the attacker can not function properly. Also a stun gun creates interruption real small neurological impulses which control and help direct voluntary muscle movement. The attacker will lose sense of balance if neurological and muscular system is controlled and overwhelmed with the use of a stun gun, he loses his balance. Should the attacker be touching you, the current will not pass to your body. This will will give you 15 to 30 minutes to get out of the area.
One thing to remember is that these are non-leathal. They do not kill like a hand gun or knife will.
