Personalized Cartoons Make Great Gifts

It is always difficult to think of something original to buy as a gift

. This is why personalized cartoons are so good because they are something completely different from the usual run of the mill flowers and chocolates kinds of gifts. A cartoon can suit so many different occasions, from a new baby, a wedding, a graduation or a new home, whatever it is there is a cartoon for it. Cartoons have been around for a very long time.

The original meaning of the word cartoon is very different to the modern day meaning. It used to be the term that was given to a drawing that was done in preparation for a much larger and grander piece of work. Cartoons would have been done for tapestries and pieces of fine art so that the artist could work out the dimensions and content before beginning to work on more expensive materials.

Cartoons for frescos were done on heavy pieces of cardboard and were life sized. The lines on the cartoon could then be pricked out and it would be held up against the area of the wall where the fresco was to be painted. Soot would then be patted through the holes in the cardboard so that an outline would appear on the wall behind. The picture from the cardboard was transferred to the wall in this manner.

Nowadays a cartoon usually refers to a humorous drawing or picture. It can be a single picture or a whole strip of pictures, and the captions can appear as speech bubbles in the picture, or be written along the bottom of the picture. It is a very popular part of modern day print although it originates from around eighteen forty.

Cartoons can be found in a lot of daily and weekly newspapers, and many appear in the form of a strip where the story is continued from one strip to the next. These are called cartoon strip or comic strips. Many cartoons in newspapers have a political and topical comment on the events of the day.

There are entire books of comic strips, some of which have been reprinted from the newspapers. Some of these cartoons are aimed at children, while others are strictly for adults. Adult cartoons books are sometimes called graphic novels.

Some animated films are called cartoons. They are made by filming cartoon images in quick succession so that they look as if they are moving. Cartoon films are often, but not always, aimed at children.

Cartoons are a fun way of viewing the world, and giving personalized cartoons makes a lovely gift for anyone to receive. These cartoons can also be transferred onto many different things, such as mugs, key rings or t shirts. Cartoons have certainly evolved from their original beginnings, and can now provide an interesting alternative view on life.
