Fans of comedian Peter Kay will be licking their lips and limbering up their laptops with the news that the Bolton-born and bred performer has released a new website that goes far beyond his previous online offerings. The star of Phoenix Nights and Britain's Got the Pop Factor may have been ubiquitous on the nation's small screens for the past few years, but this has been true of TVs rather than computers. Up to now Kay's websites have been focused around simply selling his wares, or crafted as labours of love by members of his fan base. However, Manchester's Creative Spark have changed all that with the launch of new portal www.peterkay.co.uk The agency's Head of Design Andy Mallalieu, who was on the design team for the project, said that the agency had "totally revamped" Kay's online presence over the course of September to give it greater depth, interest and to reflect the comedian's unique northern humour and personality. "We've kept the shop element," he said of the former incarnation, "but we've added features such as news updates, tour information and freebies. "It was developed very closely with Peter himself, who wanted it to be very traditional and British in its character" - a quirk that can be seen in the background photography for the site, which was shot in Bolton specially by lens man Matt Squire. Since the website went live the site has enjoyed over half a million visitors, with over 250,000 people signing up to the email database. Video clips are being added soon, in the freebies section, and subscribers can hear Kay reading from his new book and find out about tours and other events prior to their official release. Mallalieu said the team were very pleased with the job, which they initially picked up after coming through a pitch process.About the Author:
