, Petra is behind dense rocky mountains, this place boasts of unique scenes which makes it the most magnificent and impressive ancient site nowadays. It is a fact that nothing in world resembles it. This rose-red rock-carved city of Petra is full of mystifying charm the spectators here admire the striking beauty of the place. Petra is the most well known and beautiful spot in Jordan it is situated around 135 km north of Aqaba and 264 km south of Amman. This place came into existence due to the legacy of the Nabataeans, they were basically industrious Arab people who came and settled in southern Jordan some 2000 years ago. The place is well-liked because of its distinguished culture, gigantic architecture and due to the complex of water channels and dams. Petra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is also included in the UNESCO world heritage site. The place with its striking features attracts many visitors from nook and corner of the globe. This magnificent place has a kilometer long, gloom and cool chasm; there is an existence of long narrow gorge which has steep rising sides which provides the dramatic contrast with the magic. This gorge suddenly opens into one of the natural square which is dominated the most well known monument of Petra, The Treasury (El-Khazneh). The Treasurys intricately carved facade blazes in the glittering sun. This ancient city slowly opens up one monument after the other till a long distance for kilometers. Only the size of the city and the strikingly carved facades is astounding and reflects the industry and creativity of the Nabataeans. The Nabataeans made Petra their capital for long time. Visiting to Petra is always amazing, and memorable. This place flourished for more than 400 years it was all during the time of Rome and Christ later it was captured by the Roman legions of Trajan in 106 AD. There are around 800 individual monuments in Petra basin which consist of tombs, buildings, baths, temples, funerary halls, arched gateways, and colonnaded streets. These were all carved by the experts from the kaleidoscopic sandstone. The best time to see the Petra sights are during the early morning and late in the afternoon, when the rays of the sun warms stones. After being lost in 16th century Petra was later on discovered in the year 1812.
