Pets Rising Cause Great Burden in China

Keeping pets are becoming more and more popular in China. Some people keep pets because of their love for them, while some people keep pets for fashion. However, the adverse effect brought by keeping pets is more and more serious in China. It is very obvious that the harm bring by keeping pets, especially the pet of dogs. Here I want to show some of the adverse effects brought by keeping dogs.

1. Fast growing rate.

According to the reports, there are at least 1 million pets in Beijing at moment while it's about 10 million pets all over the China. What's more, there are 100 thousand families having dogs, and 40.67% of which keeping 2 dogs. It is predicted by experts that the total number of the dogs will be 5 times than that of now, reaching about 600 million in the next 5 yeas. However, there are only 560 million urban populations in China.

It is hard imagine what the society will be when there are half dogs and half people in the urban areas. Such kind of growing rate of dogs is really fast, which has passed the pets growing rate in developed countries. However, it is definitely not a good thing for China.

2. Consuming too much resource

Although China's economy has got a great development and people's living standards have an overall improvement, China is still a developing country. There are still tens of millions of poor people without adequate food and clothing. Many families can not afford their school fees. When we put a lot of resources on the development of pet, can it be consistent its national condition?

Pets, like a person, need foods and drinks. They also need doctors and barbers. They need various services. We could imagine how much expenses will be spent on the 500 million pets, including pet's centers, hospitals and so on. According to reports, there are 10 thousand national pet hospitals at the end of 2003. Some people even import expensive pet for their own recreation, such as Samoyed, Yorkshire, and Schnauzer. It cost at least 6,000 RMB for dog registration, 5,000 RMB in Shenzhen, 3,000RMB in Kunming.

3. Taking up people's too much time and influencing human relationship

It takes people's too much time to take car of them. It's natural that people will feel in love with their pets. Thus, they would like to buy their pets anything they like. However, the problem is that people lavish too much love on their dog. They feed dogs; take them for a walk, make beds for them, making a relationship of intimate with the dog.

For example, one of my friends loves his dog very much. The first thing he would do after work is to hug and kiss his dog. He even bough many Christmas gift for his dog instead of buying his wife nothing. His wife doubts that she was no more important than a dog.

Obviously, the situation of the above has affected human relations. Recently, many elderly people are not well supported by their children. We believe that those old people will be very sad when they know that their children take more importance on dogs than on them.

Forth, pollution of the urban environment and threatens to human health and life. It really happens that you stepped on some dog feces when you walk in the street, accidentally. We believe it is disgusting when run into such kind of thing. There are a few dog owners who allow their dogs to have bowel movements in the street. However, they just walk away and do not clear the pets' shit. It's serious environment pollution. What's more, the dogs often carry some diseases, which could spread to human's body through lice, fleas, mites and other parasites.

All in all, please think carefully before you choose your pets, for the sake of yourself and the whole society.
