, the Phillip Island Nature Park is a wildlife conservation park spanning nearly two thousand hectares. Although the park is run by the Victorian State Government, its popularity as a tourist attraction means it does not have to rely on government funds. Founded in 1996, the park is less than a two hour drive from Melbourne. There are four major attractions here, namely the Churchill Island Heritage Farm, the Penguin Parade, the Nobbies Centre and the Koala Conservation Centre.

The Penguin Parade, which takes place at sunset, is by far the most popular attraction here. Visitors can watch as the Little Penguins wade out of the ocean and across the shore to get to their burrows in the sand dunes. Of all penguin species the aptly named Little Penguin is the smallest and is the only species of penguin with a permanent presence in continental Australia. Although one can find a schedule of penguin arrivals on the official park website, timings can vary.

The Churchill Island Heritage Farm is a terrific place for visitors to get an idea of farm life. From cow milking and sheep shearing to wagon rides and demonstrations by blacksmiths, it is an interesting place to visit. At the Koala Conservation Centre one can come across the country's iconic marsupials while the Nobbies Centre brings visitors closer to the island's massive seal population.
