Phone Card Convenience: Eliminate Monthly Phone Bills

If you have ever found yourself needing to make a phone call for an emergency

, the only solution was to find a pay phone. But not being frequent users of the public phone, we expected to put our quarter in the slot and make our call. However, during our local call, we hear a recorded message telling us we have to add additional money for one more minute, only to discover, we don't have any more change. Our solution was the cell phone. We became Disgruntled over hidden charges, and our kids using them unmercifully, creating enormous phone bills. Consumers found a solution; they cancelled out their cell phones. But the phone providers, to continue making money, came up with a marketing strategy being that of a calling card.

The market has become inundated with the pre-paid phone cards. Some are for international calls only. Others can be used from any phone, for any type of call. A $10 card can be bought, and when that money is used up, the consumer can buy a new card. Other cards can be recharged or refilled, by calling a number on the back of the pre-paid card, or taking it to a merchant, adding a specific amount of money or minutes using your credit card or by paying cash.

Another phone card that hit the market is designed for cell phones. These cards are also prepaid by a cash amount, or by minutes for local and long distance calls. Another name used by cell phone companies is the use of a SIM card which is also a pre-paid card, used for a specific phone. Even the phone card for a specific cell phone company provider, can be found at retail stores. Those who feel safer with a cell phone while traveling or even as a replacement of the home phone, are able to control their monthly bill with the pre-pay methods. But even pre-pays have their drawbacks. Each card may or may not have an activation fee. If a call is not completed, the minutes used may be deducted. A 60 minute phone card may only provide 30 minutes of phone time due to calculation methods used by the provider.

By making wise choices, the pre-pay method does eliminate contracts, and steep fees should a contract need to be cancelled. The prepay method also stops those enormous cell phone bills due to our kids using them to chat with friends, downloading ring-tones, etc, when they were meant for emergencies only.
