Phuket is Thailand"s largest island. The island is connected to mainland Thailand by two bridges, so the travel by road is very easy from Thailand"s mainland to Phuket. It is situated off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea and is also known affectionately as the pearl of the Andaman Sea. Phuket not only has rich and colorful history but is also rich in tin and rubber. The island was on one of the major trading routes between India and China and its wealth from trading tin and rubber but now, most of the revenue comes from tourism.
Phuket is a great place to visit for sun, sea, sand and lovely tropical weather which is neither too hot nor too cold. The beaches are very attractive with white sand, crystal clear topaz water, coral reefs, sunny weather and lush greenery. Some of the beaches are always filled with people enjoying the water sports, laying down in sun, singing and dancing whereas there are other quieter beaches where crowd is seldom found and serenity and calmness prevails till the area that the eye captures. This wonderful contrast can be enjoyed by variety of people with varied moods.
Due to the high frequency of tourism, the resorts and restaurants can be found here in varied range of cost value and modernization. Resorts are available from single, double sharing basis to private bunglows with private beaches. Similar way, food is available in all the international cuisines in the 5-star facilities as well as on the stalls by the beach side. The local dishes include:
"Hokkien or Peranakan Food

"Cashew nuts and pineapples are rarely grown in Phuket but are available all year round. The nuts are available dried, fried or coated
"Khanom chin a version of noodles taken at breakfast, usually served with a spicy curry sauce and fresh vegetables.
"Nam phrik Kung siap is a mixture of dried chili and smoked shrimps taken with various fresh vegetables.
"Phat kana mu krop is a dish with sauted leafy green (similar to kale) and crispy pork.
"Kuai tiao ruea (Boat Soup) is a noodle soup made with a brown broth and stewed buffalo meat, before serving a small amount of fresh buffalo blood is added (optional). The soup is traditionally made on a longtail boat.
"Khao man kai is a simple dish of chicken and rice (usually infused with pandanus leaves) that is sold at many small stands.
Koh Phuket is also a shopper"s paradise as visitors can choose from large shopping malls selling national and international wares or market stalls selling trinkets, jewelry items and the locally made stuff.
