. A lot of people have a strong opinion of how to pick winners at the horse races and have their own little system. On the other hand, almost everyone who goes to the races loses over the long haul. Have you developed your own method by experimenting with different factors and ways to combine them?

If you have, you've probably already figured out that is absolutely maddening to try to beat the races. Even if you manage to make a profit for a while, eventually you lose it all back. For instance, if you bet a horse, call him Lucky Jim, in the $10,000 claiming race, then you should have noted what factors you used to evaluate him and why you bet him. It is also just as important to note the losers as the winners.

The second part of my advice is that you shouldn't be starting at the very beginning. A lot of people have been working at beating this game for a long time. Some of them have made some very interesting discoveries. Their work can save you many weeks, months or even years of experimentation. The best way to see what they discovered about picking winners using a system is to look at the systems they invented. You will find some work very well and with a little tweaking and your own efforts, you could adapt a system to suit your own style and the track you play.
