If they are retired then it should have been for no more than two years or else the opposing side might be able to argue that their knowledge is out of date.

Some experts who testify in front of juries may be needed more than once, so it helps if they live near enough to easily attend court. Ideally they should be used to testifying and familiar with the techniques that might be used by lawyers to discredit them. They should have no problem testifying against colleagues.

It is unpleasant enough having something go wrong in the dentists chair, and having to deal with the pain caused by something going wrong. Picking the right dental expert witness can make dealing with a malpractice suit an awful lot easier. If you have someone who can present all the facts clearly and with authority then you will stand a much better chance of winning.
