. The Visual One Time Password (VOTP) approach uses the concept of symbols rather than words to Secure Data, protect access to networks, and web applications. The technique works because each time a user is prompted for their set of symbols to gain access; the symbols are in a different position on the keypad.

The PINoptic VOTP algorithms are implemented in such a way that some of the most damaging hack attacks - those that deposit "key-logging" malware that records key strokes and steal passwords - are thwarted. Since the keys that need to be typed to gain access change every time, even somebody watching a user key their entry "code" would be unable to gain access.

The company believes the technology has a role in both consumer and enterprise markets. According to PINoptic CEO Evan Livingston, the applications for PINoptic in business are extremely diverse.
