Places of interest in Spain Seville

A part of the Andalusia province, Seville is popular for its most artistic monuments of historical importance. The uniqueness of Seville is that the more you know it, the more you are interested to visit the place and the more you visit, the more you are interested to know it. This artistic city will never get out of your mind once you visit it; that is Seville.

Brief history:

The known history of this city dates back to about 2000 years and its culture is influenced by great personalities like Christopher Columbus and great rulers of Moors, Romans and Christians. The culture of these great generations has left an indelible impression on the life of the people living here. UNESCO has declared Seville as a World Heritage site. Perhaps that is the only way these great civilizations can be remembered.

Interestingly the government of Spain has taken pains to preserve many of the monuments built during the rule of these civilizations.

For example the Cathedral of Seville which is believed to have been built in the year 1401 justifies the world heritage' recognition it has got from the UNESCO. This cathedral is beautiful and spellbinding. Every place in the cathedral is worth seeing. If any tourist misses this cathedral, certainly he would have missed something great. The spectacular works of art, intricate sculpture, great collection of paintings of great painters, lavishly decorated interiors; words cannot fully explain this beauty. Just visit it to feast your mind and eyes.

Torre del Oro, the watch tower believed to have been built by Almohad dynasty is yet another example of a great monument. The designers of this tower had invented a simple mechanism to prevent ships entering the river point. The mechanism was that they had run a chain through the water of the river and the chain ran through the base of the tower. By this simple mechanism they were able to prevent large ships from entering the river basin.

Apart from this there are many other places of interest like the Town hall, the University of Seville with its most imposing campus, the Alcazar, Moorish palace, Plaza de Espana, Museum of fine arts of Seville, Maria Lusia Park, Flamenco Art museum and Army museum.

The city is very well connected by road, train and by Air. Accommodation is plenty and most affordable.
