Planning A Halloween Event in Your Front Garden

Adults as well as children celebrate Halloween in many unusual ways

. Take for example, a lady in Detroit, who waits for the school bus to leave her house on the morning of Halloween. She then sets to work on her front garden. When the bus returns the children are amazed to see it transformed with gravestones, monsters and ghosts.

This new trend in front garden decoration, attracts trick or treat visitors to these houses especially if the house has built up a reputation over the years. And our lady finds that instead of having a handful of visitors on Halloweens eve, she gets over 300. The other effect is that other homeowners in the neighborhood also start to do the same. Pretty soon the whole street is transformed into a Halloween occasion.

Perhaps the fascination is that on this one night of the year, we become more aware of the supernatural and the power it carries. There is no other time where you could put up this type of creepy decoration and not have the police coming round to investigate.

Where do you start? Well if you are a planner, then you could imagine your garden as the setting for a series of short scenes from a play. You could start with what first attracts kids. Then, as they walk up the pathway, what do they see or hear? Could you arrange something moving in your window?

Now they ring your front door bell. Who answers it and how do they answer it? Do you see the possibilities? You could actually frighten them more than they could you.

One couple set up four live actors in the garden path to their front door. One was dressed in black, one as a mummy and so on. One controlled a buzzer sound so that when people got near, they were buzzed. She got many screams with that one. So think outside the box this Halloween and set up an event you can really enjoy, in a creepy sort of way.
