Planning A Vacation
A vacation can provide a much needed change of routine and an opportunity to recharge your batteries
. Even looking forward to a vacation can cause you to increase your workplace output in order to be ahead of the game upon your return. When the vacation is over you hopefully will return to your home and job feeling sharper and more motivated than when you left.
That being the case, it is puzzling why many people do not put a lot more thought and effort into planning their vacations. There are several things that you need to consider in order to plan the right kind of vacation for you.
Vacation Planning Factors
Budget
The most obvious factor to consider when planning a vacation is your budget. Budget can determine where you go, what time of year you travel, the mode of travel and whether you book in advance or at the last minute. In general, the best way to reduce costs if you are on a limited budget is to travel during the off-season or off-peak periods. In other words, try to avoid the high-season travel times of Christmas/New Year"s, March Break, summer holiday season and long weekends when prices are most often inflated. Another saving can result from booking last-minute travel if you are willing to wait for a bargain and have no particular destination or hotel in mind. Changing your mode of travel, from a flight and hotel to a camping trip for example is another way to travel on a budget.
Mood
Once your budget has been taken into consideration the other most important factor in planning a vacation will be your mood. Depending on your interests, and those of the people you will be traveling with, your vacation can include relaxing at an all-inclusive resort, adventure travel such as white water rafting or rock-climbing, taking a cruise, attending sporting or entertainment events such as pro sports games, auto and horse racing, theatre and music festivals, educational tours to museums and historic landmarks, shopping trips, cottage rental, driving trips, fishing, camping or volunteer assistance in developing parts of the world. You may want to visit a new "hot spot" that is being advertised or make a repeat visit to a favorite place you have visited in the past. Let your mood decide.
Destination Features
Some other considerations when planning a vacation include the culture, cuisine, climate, physical geography, scenery and safety and security at the destination. Is the destination child friendly if you are bringing children or is it senior friendly if you are a more seasoned traveler? Cobblestone roads and a rugged topography may make it difficult for travelers at either end of the age spectrum. Is it the rainy season, allergy season or mosquito season at the destination? What are the driving and insurance rules if you are planning to rent a car? Is there a crime problem or is there civil strife in the destination country?
There are a number of sources of travel information that you can consult to help you make your choice including the internet, travel agencies, tourist boards, libraries, television and radio travel programs, your country"s foreign affairs office, people such as relatives, friends and co-workers and cultural organizations or individuals from the country that you are considering to visit.
