It is important that rugby players dont slack off even when its off season
. It means that you should not prepare later what you can do today in your training. It does not mean to say that you should go on extensive training while you are at it but it may mean simple and routine training that can keep your strength and your body in good overall condition so that your body will not be overwhelmed in the next season.
A lot of us imagine rugby players as tall and big individuals that can take on a couple of people with ordinary weights. However, rugby players dont need to be big and tall. They are just conditioned and trained well in order to perform and execute plays that their positions entail. There will be differences in sizes and weight between the forwards and the backs and each position that a player fills should be trained and developed accordingly.
There are also different phases of training that rugby players undergo just like any other field sports or any outdoor sports for that matter. Rugby players should maintain a solid and appropriate level of physical fitness that can allow them to execute brute strength. Within a number of months, rugby players are trained vigorously and extensively so that they can keep up within the playing season.
The physical demands of the game are increasing when it is in the playing season while consistent maintenance is needed when it is off season. Sometimes players have to miss out some of the minor games in order to prepare for the big and major ones. More often than not this also happens in womens rugby league wherein players are prepared to go international games.
In the womens rugby league, players are required to undergo conditioning work, which will be carried out within a couple of months in the off season so that there will be midweek training in order to solidify the fitness base. In other words, the entire off season workout is focused on endurance boosting and weight training in order to enhance the strength and muscular stamina, since women are more prone to muscular fatigue than men do.
When the new season is near for the womens rugby league, the training will be shifted to enhance agility and power and the entire workout will be specific to the match that is coming up.
