Planting Tips On Tree And Shrub Care

Trees and shrubs play a major role in making a landscape, garden or lawn beautiful. You cannot ever find a substitute for a lush green flowering tree in the entire world. Similarly, shrubs make your lawn look denser and greener.

Noted below are some of the essential factors related to tree and shrub care.

* While planting any shrub or sapling, one has to be careful about the way it is planted. The hole dug in the mud shouldn't be too big in breadth. It should be of the right size to hold the plant in erect position. As a standard measure, the hole should have its diameter equivalent to half the diameter of the root to be planted.

* Once again while planting a tree or shrub, you should make sure that the depth of the hole into which it is planted is deep enough to let the roots breathe and grow comfortably. Make sure that the soil at the root level is not too compact. The soil at the base of the root should be softer than the soil above the root. You should dig a hole that is at least 2 to 2.5 inches longer than the root to be placed in. This is to allow the plant to grow easily at its root level without any resistance.

* You should add some mild fertilizer while planting a shrub or tree. This gives it enough energy to jumpstart its initial growth. The mud dug out while making the hole should be mixed with some organic fertilizer and peat moss before it is used to cover up the hole. There is a good chance that transplanted plants might wither away so you should take extra care in terms of proper watering and adequate fertilization at this stage.

* While planting a sapling or a shrub, you should ensure that it is erected straight within the ground. If it is tilting towards one side, then you should dig out the soil again and refill the hole around the plant while holding it in a perpendicular position to the ground. If any shrub or tree is not planted at 90 degrees to the ground, it would grow sideways with a tilt that cannot be corrected at a later stage. This would look awkward and also affect the health of the tree or shrub.

* Once the shrub or sapling is sowed, you should arrange the loose soil in a small heap around it. This is essential for water retention and proper growth at this tender stage. You should also water the tree or shrub regularly for 2 weeks. However, make sure that you do not flood it with excessive watering. This will decompose the plant by retarding its growth.
