Since ages we have been listening of plastic bags and are using them for varied purposes. They are UN undoubtedly very popular because they are cheaper to produce, waterproof and durable. However, their durability only makes them unsafe and unhealthy for the environment on the other hand.

It is because of the fact that they are made from polyethylene, a petroleum product, which is a completely non-renewable resource. These products are non- biodegradable. Moreover, these substances usually take centuries to break down and when they actually break off, it's into a "plastic dust" which contaminates animal life, the soil and the water, the oceans and the seas.

Mostly all the plastic trash usually is not recycled and is transferred in the landfills. There they escape into the environment through water or wind actions.

I addition to this, Plastic bags give a devastating effect on animals, birds, small and big creatures and so on the marine life too. From plants, animals, birds , all mistake the plastic for food & then finally pass off.

Its because after ingesting plastic bags which have obstructed their digestive systems. Birds get trapped in plastic bags hanging off bushes and trees. In addition to this, Whales and Turtles get messed in them unwontedly & due to suffocation or starve, they result in death.

Not just this, this plastic pains them till their last breath which is very inhuman when we hear of it. So, we should think of their pain and then take a right step in order to avoid the usage of plastic.

But how can we actually help? This is very important to be known and followed:

Use Biodegradable Shopping Bags: Cloth made shopping bags are a great way to avoid the use of plastic shopping bags.

Re-usage: All plastic bags can be reused very easily. So instead of throwing the litter into the bins, you can reuse them or send to the re usage houses.

Compost: You can also avoid the use of plastic polybags for carrying fruits or veggies, rather you can use cloth bags, plastic boxes.

After having the relevant knowledge about the harmful effects of plastic, you must encourage others by sharing with them the disadvantages of plastic and how it can be replaced with other items.

Encouragement is a great way to make a right move in a right direction. It just spreads awareness among people but also motivates them to take a united and meaningful action.
