Plastic food containers have been keeping freshness and stability of food for us for long.

With them, the chances of spoilage or deterioration of unfinished or raw food are substantially brought down. Also, plastic container has huge strengthenness in medical usage and its unbreakable toughness can keep medicine safe. Pill containers, for instance, can prevent medicine from contamination and further protect patients from other infection. However, there is always hearsay that plastic packaging would release carcinogens if heated. Recently I even got an email titled "Johns Hopkins Cancer News" and repeatedly circulated on internet, claiming that freezing or microwaving plastic container releases carcinogens, Dioxins. This arouses me to prove it "WRONG" and after searching thorough a great deal of data, here are the reliable facts I obtained from SPI, the plastics industry trade association in America.

First, plastic medicine and food container consist of none chemicals which generate Dioxins. This point is also supported by Professor Rolf Halden of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Health, There are no dioxins in plastics. Professor Rolf Halfden even clarified in a news release that Johns Hopkins never publicized this kind of message.

Moreover, many plastic containers, plastic bottles, plastic serving trays and other plastic packaging have high melting point. Polypropylene, one of the more common polymer materials used to manufacture assorted food storage containers, is thermoplastic. Thermoplastic polymer has the ability to endure extremely high temperature and heat. It is even impossible for the ones with Dioxins-produced chemicals to release Dioxins unless get burned at over-700-degree temperatures.

Furthermore, heat cannot have plastic container release carcinogens, not to mention freeze. Quite the opposite from high temperature, cold temperature suppresses diffuseness of chemicals.

"Freezing actually works against the release of chemicals," said Professor Rolf Halfden.

In fact, dangers usually come from inappropriate use. Hence simply following the direction and intended purpose on labels or container while using, plastic packaging is safe and won't cause harm to human body.
