Plastic Tubes The Different Types
There were days when lead and clay were the best materials to use in making sewer lines
. However, this has drastically changed and plastic has replaced most products and it is what building code now dictates. The plastic preference is as a result of the fact that the material is long lasting and tough as well. It is also true that most garden irrigation and water supply lines are made using plastic.
Plastic tubes are always in demand as they meet the different needs in the market. They are also quite affordable and economical thereby suiting all kinds of budgets and at the same time managing to serve the intended purpose. There are different kinds of plastic tubes in the market and you will need to ensure that you get the right one for the right kind of job or application that you have.
PVC: polyvinyl chloride tubes are the most common especially for household use on the vent and sewer. They will normally come in gray or white colors and fit different diameters. The tubes are normally sawed to their different lengths with the help of miter saw, circular saw or handsaw. They are used in different kinds of applications.
ABS: acrylonitrile butadiene styrene plastic tubes are also used for domestic purposes. You will mostly find them in black color and are designed to fit different diameters. They can also be used on vent and sewer installation but since they differ greatly with PVC tubes in rate of expansion, it is not advisable to use them both at the same time and within the same pipeline.
CPVC: chlorinated polyvinyl chloride plastic tubes have the same properties as the PVC tubes but they withstand high fluid temperatures hence are good for all kinds of water supply applications. They are easy to install especially when compared with copper tubes which call for soldering. You will only need cement, primer and couplings to complete installing.
Polyethylene: these plastic tubes are quite flexible are mostly used in garden irrigation, waste disposals and floor radiant systems of heating. They are available in rolls and come in different lengths and widths. They are put together with the help of clamps and fittings and are the most economical in terms of installation.
