Play Hard to Get Does it Really Work?
When you are interested in someone, do you know whether or not you should play hard to get? Does this long-held idea really work, or is it just an old wives' tale? Do you sometimes feel clueless about what you should be doing when you want to flirt? Should you be up-front about things, or try to be a little more mysterious? Sometimes, it seems like the rules of the dating game are constantly changing. But, there really are things that never change, and you should know why and how to play hard to get.
There are a couple of reasons why this age-old tactic really does work. One is that it makes a woman seem enticing. The unattainable, or rather the barely-attainable, has powerful attractions. If a man sees that you won't just fall into his lap, he has an incentive to seek you out.
When you meet a guy who might be interested in you, it really does increase attraction if you seem like you might be able to take him or leave him. He's not sure how you feel, and that bit of anxiety and uncertainty can increase his interest level. If you seem too willing to drop everything for him, then the interest and mystery can evaporate quickly. If you have plenty of other interesting activities in your life, then you will come across as more intriguing.
Another reason that unavailability is attractive is that it presents a challenge. When you play hard to get, you are seen not only as interesting, but as someone that a guy will have to work for. Men certainly are interested in challenges. If there is a sense that he has to compete with other people and activities in your life, it raises his excitement levels. There's nothing like a little competition to motivate people, and that competition can be from other guys that you are seeing, or just with other items in your busy schedule.
So, now that you understand why this works, how do you go about it? One important thing to understand is that you shouldn't be playing him just to be manipulative. Don't mess with someone just to see if you can do it. That's not rightit's mean, and you wouldn't want to be treated that way.
Instead of playing games, make sure that you are playing for keeps. If you aren't looking to develop a serious relationship, be honest and up front about this. But, if you are ready for a relationship, it is still a good idea to take things slowly, and that is partly why being somewhat unavailable is a good way to approach dating. It will not only help to keep his interest, but will allow you both some time to get to know each other.
So, now you know. It really can be a good idea to play hard to get.
