Play Together to Stay Together

For a happier relationship couples need Playtime together.

A USA TODAY report states that Couple's who play together stay together. I believe this to the full extent. When a couple find things that they love to do together it builds bonds of strength in a relationship. With today's tough economy we tend to work longer hours and have more away time from our partner. We need to find things like golf, tennis, fishing, exploring and etc to do together and share fun moments together.

"The more you invest in fun and friendship and being there for your partner, the happier the relationship will get over time," says Howard Markman, a psychologist who co-directs the university's Center for Marital and Family Studies. "The correlation between fun and marital happiness is high, and significant."

Consider a date night a week together. There are so many good reports out on the web about last relationships that take one night week just for the two of them to spend quality time together. There is so much stress today in our fast paced lifestyle. It is time that we put some quality time aside for the relationship.

One key not that was pointed out in the article was that men and women do view enjoyment together differently. Men prefer to do activities while women prefer to have a relaxing conversation over dinner.

"Les Parrott, a psychology professor at Seattle Pacific University and co-author of relationship books. One of the reasons couples have trouble is that they have different takes on fun and bonding, Parrott says. "Intimacy and friendship for a man is built on shared activity, but for women, shared activity is a backdrop for a great conversation. What she wants on date night is a time of intimacy and friendship. He's disappointed because she'll never go to a game or golfing, and it's during shared activities that his spirit is most likely to open up."

Both sides of the partnership need to be flexible in spending time together. Try this, every other week the date night consists on what she wants to do and the opposite week she does what he wants to do. It is about spending time together and the focus should not be on what each one wants to do but about quality time together. It is the togetherness that holds a relationship together not the activity.

Communication is important here, a solid relationship depends on communication. Sit down together and plan out what will be done this week on date night. It may be just a walk in the park, or dinner and a movie. The big thing is, get out of the house and away from the kids and television for one night a week. Make the time for each other and for building a happy long relationship together. Spend some intimate time together with your significant other and live a long happy life together.
