PlayStation Eye is successor to the EyeToy for the PS2. PlayStation has improved on the EyeToy camera in a couple of ways. The lens can zoom in and out and has a very high quality and the picture is way better.
Eye camera also has a microphone built in. Mic has a good sensitivity and can pick up a regular conversation at a decent distance. The microphone is 4 way so it can cancel out background noise and it also picks out direction well. Allowing you to keep the microphone somewhere convenient.
In the package I got the EyeCreate software and camera. The software can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store for free if you bought camera separately. Software is a simple application that can record from the camera and also can edit clips together.
This has a lot of potential for being creative, not incredibly flexible and the camera needs to be connected to work so there's not much you can film outside your home.Nice to be included but it's not the most useful feature. I've only really played very few of the games available for use with the eye, I downloaded a couple of cheap games from the PS store that uses the eye most were interactive but still selection wasn't great.
The Eye really comes in useful in chatting with contacts or friends, PlayStation have a bluetooth headset for chat which is the most common way for communicating online Speaking from a hardware point of view the Eye is excellent, its well constructed and does exactly as intended. Camera's ability to be able to record normal conversation while blocking out the noise makes it live up to the Sony name.
