When you want to play the suited connecters is from a great position, or if you are getting great odds in a pot where there are multiple players in the hand. If you play the hand with just a call before the flop and hit the flop making the nuts or a straight on the flop you will probably want to slow play your hand checking the flop. If you make a raise before the flop and smack the flop with a disguised hand like 56 suited then it is always best to make a continuation bet.

You will want to get two streets of equity if you have a big hand and three when possible. Limping in to the hand and flopping the nuts checking the flop is a good idea because if someone has top pair or middle pair they might bet it, and then you can put a check raise in or just simply flat call the bet. Then you can proceed to bet the turn and get your opponent stuck into what they should do. Making your opponent make the big mistake is what you want to do. You want them to say all-in when you lead out at the turn, which is your goal of the check call and the turn bet. Also if they float or just call your turn bet you are in great shape to either check the river or bet the river depending on what the board shows.

When you raise or make a call before the flop with middle suited connecters and flop a pair with a draw, or flop a straight you will want to put a lot of money in on the flop putting your opponent to the test. Also you want to allow yourself another way to win the pot if you aren't there yet. Making a big bet on a board that doesn't look like a hand you will have calling a raise before the flop can cause your opponent to make a big blunder in a pot with an over pair. A lot of players will over commit themselves when they have the big pairs and try to get a lot of money in to the pot regardless of how scary or what the board shows. To exploit this, play the suited connecters once in a while, not always. You will want to play them against tight players who only play the big pairs and AK or AQ.

The reason for that is because these players look to commit their stacks with these hands, and are unable to lay these hands down because they wait so long just to get these hands. Why you don't want to play against an aggressive player with a hand like 56 suited is because on a flop of 789 they could easily be holding a hand like J10 and you will commit your whole stack to a pot drawing completely dead. Picking the right spots playing these hands is certainly important, and something that should be emphasized. Some players don't even play the small or middle connectors because they feel they get stuck too often in pots. But, picking the correct spots to win hands will allow you to turn a losing session in to a winning one, and ultimately make the most money.
