The Web site Bodog.com released a heaping pile of NBA-related odds today. I'm not a betting man, but I thought it would be fun to look at some of the Heat-specific wagers bodog has made available:
Over/under on home wins: 36
I can't get a 36.5 on this? Fine. Over the past five seasons, five teams have managed 36 or more home wins: the 2005-06 Pistons (37-4); the 2006-07 Mavs (36-5); the 2007-08 Jazz (37-4); and both the Cavs (39-2) and Lakers (36-5) in 2008-09. No one did it last year.
You'll notice that two of those five clubs reached exactly 36 wins, which gets us a push and not a win here (I think again, I don't bet).wholesale nfl jerseys,cheap nhl jerseys,football jerseys,nba shop,This is a tougher bet than it first appears, especially given Mike Miller may miss a month or two with a thumb injury and Dwyane Wade is nursing a hamstring injury.
If pressed, I'm taking the over. The atmosphere in Miami is going to be electric, and the Heat can squeak out a 37-4 mark there even though teams will obviously be gunning for them.
Over/under road wins: 28.5
Only four teams have pulled this off during the same five seasons (though a bunch have come close at 27-14): the 2008-09 Lakers (29-12); the 2007-08 Celtics (an astounding 31-10), the 2006-07 Mavs (also 31-10); and the 2005-06 Spurs (29-12).winter cap,red bull cap,monster hat,new era hats,(Side note: the '06-07 Suns were 28-13 on the road and 61-21 overall. I'm taking the over without a second thought. This team might not lose 13 games overall, let alone 13 away from Miami.

I'm staying away. My neophyte gambling experience level tells me this is a pithy return on a risky bet.

Do people actually bet on things like this? Why?
Odds to lose in Eastern Conference finals 13/4
This I can understand. If there's a running trend through these odds,asics running,asics gel shoes,running shoes asics, it's that you can get very good value if you think the Celtics and (especially) the Magic are true challengers to the Heat. Orlando, for instance, is at 11/2 to win the Eastern Conference and 13/1 (just a notch ahead of Oklahoma City, sitting at 14/1) to win the NBA title.

This is a dumb bet.
Odds to lose in first round: 15/2
Only if you think two of the LeBron James-Chris Bosh-Wade trio will be injured come playoff time
Odds the Heat do not make the playoffs: 35/1
Is there a Toni Braxton-level celebrity who could cause some sort of 1990s-Mavericks-style love triangle here (or so the story goes)? Is there any other scenario where the Heat miss the playoffs? Maybe the team goes to Monkey Jungle and one of the monkeys gets loose and attacks the players?
