Please Help Save The Life Of A Heart Transplant Patient

Sometimes a person finds himself in a situation that he never could have imagined

. This happened to Craig Gibson. Craig was always a hardworking well intended person trying to support a family and get ahead in the world. When he was in his thirties he began having serious heart problems. He was in heart failure for 24 years until he finally received a heart transplant. This took place at the Cleveland Clinic, on November 23, 2009. Shortly afterwards he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to have his prostrate gland removed. He also underwent 7 weeks of radiation treatments. All of this transpired during the financial crisis. Being in the hospital for months and having his business destroyed by the financial downturn caused Craig to emerge without any way to earn a living.

Craig has been able to receive his life saving medications through different programs, and for a while the pharmaceutical companies made them available free. The monthly cost to purchase the medications to keep him alive is about $4,000.

Now Craig has to rely upon Medicare. Because Craig does not qualify for "Extra Help" through Medicaid he will have a $7,300 shortfall every year. Craig also has $35,000 of unpaid medical bills associated with his transplant.

Because Craig's only income is a $713 Social Security check, he can't possibly afford his medicine. He needs financial help. Our goal is to raise a three-year cushion to cover his medications and to pay his delinquent medical bills. We are therefore looking for donations to help out. When one has a heart transplant there are a lot of complications during the first year. If an individual survives that first year he is home free. During the first year of Craig's transplant he developed diabetes, prostate cancer, and cataracts. He no longer has diabetes, he had his cataracts removed, and he survived the prostate cancer. He has had about 25 perfect heart biopsies showing no rejection. But now he has a problem paying for his life saving medications.
