Plumbers And Gasfitters Needed Urgently
Queensland Australia has just started the recovery period of the worst floods experienced in our history
. Plumbers and gasfitters are now urgently needed to help thousands of people get back into their homes.
The Queensland floods have caused as yet unestimated Billions of dollars of damage and the economists are estimating that they have wiped from half to a full percentage point off our national GDP. This is very serious for all Australians but none more so than those people who have lost lives of family members and for those who are now, and will be for months to come if not years, cleaning and repairing houses.
People will not be able to get back into their homes until the power and sewerage services are restored. Queensland needs every available Plumber and gasfitter who would like to come and lend voluntary help first (for the OH&S) emergency restorations and then for years of work once the insurance payments are made available for people to start rebuilding and restoring their properties.
Brisbane is the best known of all the cities hit by the floods with the Brisbane River rising just a meter short of the 1974 floods. Since then, the Wivenhoe Dam was built to stop the river flooding again but with all the rainfall falling in the catchment areas in the north of the State, the Wivenhoe Dam reached 190% of capacity. The authorities had to release a controlled flow of water out because more rain is expected from monsoon troughs forming in the far north and expected to cross the coast again late next week.
The floodwaters have to date, cost the lives of 16 people and have inundated 22 towns in Queensland alone. Whole towns have had to be evacuated because their houses have gone underwater. Some areas have experienced 20 meter flood levels and new records have been set for many towns affected. It isnt only the houses and people in towns that have been wiped out.
Queensland is one of the richest agricultural states of Australia and supplies a large percentage of our food. Most of these crops have been totally destroyed along with the Canola, cotton, rice and too many others to mention here. All the pipes and irrigation systems on these farms have to be repaired and replaced, so there is enough work here in Queensland for plumbers for many years.
Queensland is also one of the largest suppliers of liquefied natural gas and all these mines have been inundated with water. Not only do these mines need to be repaired, but all the rail, road and ports have to be repaired or replaced. Australia urgently needs more plumbers and gasfitters to do this work.
The damaged houses, businesses and infrastructure are not confined to Brisbane. Over all, there have been 22 towns and many of them are regional centres that have had to be evacuated and now need repairing.
The authorities estimate that it will take many months, if not years, to repair the damage this catastrophic and unprecedented event has left behind.
