Pocahontas: An Amazing Sequel With The Damsel Being The Real Hero.

sure all of us would have heard this phrase either in a fairytale that our mom used to read before our bedtime when we were young or told by someone at some point of our lives. Fairytales are always nice and it helps us to dream though life is not a cake walk and life starts after that happily ever after! But, such tales are always good to hear or see. I love Classic films and for a change bought and Animated Classic film through the Time Warner Deals that I have subscribed for my television. Thanks to these deals, now I need not hunt for classic movies in shops.

Pocahontas is the movie that I bought. It is the 33rd film that has been released under the Walt Disney Animated Classics series in the year 1995. This is the first movie released by Disney in which the character is based on a historical legend and folklore of a Native American woman Pocahontas. But the fiction is her falling in love with an Englishman. A video game with the movie as the theme has also been released later. The movie has been quite a box office success. Pocahontas and The Lion Kings production happened simultaneously. Both were released almost at the same period of time.

The story is set in the era of 1607. A ship full of British led by Captain John Smith and leader Governor Ratcliffe set sail to a New World were native Americans live. Ratcliffe thinks that the Native Americans are hiding a huge amount of Gold. When they reach their destination, Smith tells that he was not interested in the trip. While Ratcliffe starts searching for the gold with the crew, Smith starts exploring the wilderness. At one point, Smith and Pocahontas encounter each other and start falling in love with each other. After a series of event the British and the native tribesmen wage a war and Smith ends of saving the tribes chief man. But Smith gets wounded and is forced to leave the Island to get medical attention from his world. He promises Pocahontas that he would return one day and leaves the Island. The movie ends here and is the opening for the next sequel of the movie.

The next movie starts with Ratcliffe informing the King that Smith has died. He frames Smith so that they can declare war on the Native Americans. To avoid this, the King sends John Rolfe to sign up a treaty with the Native Americans. Pocahontas and John Rolfe end up disliking each other when they meet. Though the chief refuses to come to the white land, he sends Pocahontas to sign the treaty. But Ratcliffe gets a signed document from the King that a ship will set sail to Powhatan. So Pocahontas takes up the challenge in impressing the King. Smith is then comes in to the story and helps Pocahontas and Rolfe out of a sticky situation. The rest of the story is whether she wins the Kings favor, if Ratcliffe is exposing and if she finds Smith or ends up with Rolfe.

Both the sequels have been done greatly. Though it is a fairytale like animation, the real hero is the female lead of the movie: Pocahontas. She is shown as a strong independent woman who defies things that she finds are not fair. She also has a soft heart and enjoys the nature and the animals that are there in her settlement. She is also portrayed as a warrior who stands next to her dad rather than behind him. Overall, the movie is a great watch.
