As a pharmacy technician you will be working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist

. You will be entrusted with an assortment of duties which include counting tablets, affixing labels to medicine bottles, gathering and retrieving patient records and information and verifying that the dosage instructions are correct. You may also be responsible for maintaining patient profiles and completing insurance forms, then maintain over the counter stock and inventory.

In order to be hired as this type of technician you will need to complete a one semester course, that is considered a 4 credit course which meets one evening a week. You are required to take MATH 050 and maintain at least a 2.0 average. You can also maintain a Math Level 4, and will be required to complete Pharmacology (AHCC 110). You cannot have any type of drug violation on your record.

The skills you are required to have are being a person who is always alert, continually observant, very well organized, responsible for your expected duties and totally dedicated to your career. You must take instruction well, have no problems with your work being checked by superiors, and are able to perform your duties without any direct and continuous coaching or instruction. You will be expected to be a good team player at all times, and work well with others.

The pay scale for this position varies by geographic location, but the average is around $13.00 an hour. The current lowest amount is $9.27, with the highest being around $18.00 hourly. The top 10% of the graduating students earn an average of $14.26.

In addition to these wages, you can expect some form of medical health insurance plan for yourself and your family members, be able to start a retirement program, and choose other options which may be offered by the company which hires you.
