Police Lights Make A Tough Job Easier
Law enforcement officers make use of the Police Lights when pursuing criminals
, potentially dangerous drivers, or getting to the scene of a crime or accident. Clearing the way with the lights and a siren designed to let other drivers know that they must pull over and stop, or at least give way, is how the police vehicle can make sure they can get where they need to be as fast as they can. They are aware that not only their own safety is involved, but that of other drivers or pedestrians on the road. To be able to do their job properly, they need the cooperation of everyone as they head to their destination. That is the reason they have the Police Lights, and why they use them.
There are a variety of Police Lights in use today. Some may be flashing lights of different colors, usually red, blue and white that rotate atop the vehicle. Others may flash in an intermittent pattern and be accompanied by a loud, piercing siren. The siren is purposely very loud, and can be heard as a steady wail, or in short bursts. As soon as the Police Lights are switched on the siren will give a short, loud burst of sound. If nothing else, it certainly gets your attention, especially if you are driving along and paying no attention to what is going on around you. Some drivers become so focused on the road ahead that they are unaware of any potential hazards.
Most Police Lights now use LED technology because the lights are extremely bright and last much longer then the older halogen type lights. Bulb replacement is nowhere near as often as it once was. The quality and brilliance of these lights far surpasses any that have been used in the past, and that is the whole idea behind the use of Police Lights. To attract the attention, and diffuse the situation. These lights can be programmed to a particular pattern to serve any given situation. Many of these lights have as many as 19 different patterns that can be used, and the officer will discern which situation calls for a particular light pattern.
Keep in mind that law enforcement officer will only employ the use of Police Lights as an absolute necessity. When they are working their way through heavy traffic trying to get to the scene of an accident in the safest and fastest way they can, they will use the lights to let motorists know that it is an emergency situation and they must get out of the way. Doing so will insure your safety, as well as that of the officer trying to do his or her duty. Heed the Police Lights, whether they come up behind you, or are coming from another direction. The best thing you can do is to pull over and let them pass, no matter which direction they may be coming from.
