Policeman's Son Is Guilty Of 40 Million Jewellery Heist.

Policeman's Son Is Guilty of 40 Million Jewellery Heist

.

A heist on a London jewellery store where 40 million pounds worth of jewels were stolen has been masterminded and carried out by a policeman's son it has emerged. In one of the biggest heists in Britain Aman Kassaye and his assailant held a hold up at London's Graff Diamonds store whilst wearing cunning disguises and makeup that made them appear considerably older. The pair managed to escape the jewellers in just two minutes.

The jewellery the pair stole was said to have been extremely valuable and some pieces were one offs. Some of the stones were so large that they could be easily mistaken for being costume jewellery.

The culprit Aman Kassaye is the son of a police captain from Ethiopia; he was raised in the UK and followed a Christian religion since the family came to the UK in the eighties.

The twosome fled the store, which is situated on Bond Street with stolen jewellery that amounted to 43 pieces including watches, necklaces, fancy rings and bracelets. The 43 piece collection is said to be worth around 40 million pounds in total. The police think the jewellery has been taken abroad to sell after being melted down and disguised.

The two made a mistake during the heist by leaving a bag containing valuable evidence for the police- a mobile phone and a shotgun. The DNA of the pair was then traced to a studio in Convent Garden where make up items used in disguising the pair for the robbery were found.

Kassaye tried to claim that the heist was a result of an inside job by Graff but this did not stand as Graff actually made a loss as their insurance company only paid out 18 million pounds- not even half of the amount stolen.

Expensive jewellery is often targeted by thieves as it has great monetary value and is often easy to sell on. Costume jewellery can be just as attractive and it can be very difficult to tell the difference between the two types.
