Ponting Believes India as Likely Winners of World Cup

Australia Captain, Rickey Ponting believes India in becoming the tournament's most likely winner. The quarter-finals of Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been one side games. Pakistan has defeated West Indies with ease, where as Sri Lanka overwhelmed England by chasing the target without loosing a wicket till the end.

The ICC World Cup 2011 has the tough times so far for every team. Unlike the last World Cup where the small teams like Bangladesh and Ireland have entered the super-8 and competed with the big teams. During the past World Cup India and Pakistan were out of the tournament without entering into the super-8. However, Australia has won the tournament but this time the team has hard luck.

Ricky Ponting and his team have returned home after loosing the game against India and without making out atleast in the final two. Ponting said that MS Dhoni's team has the strong batting power to surmount all the remaining oppositions. Keeping in view of the quarter-final match against Indian in Motera, he said that although they made a good total, they thought that they can defend India. Nevertheless, Yuvraj Singh has put the team into difficult position and his strong batting made India win.

Ponting reported to the Sydney media that India will be hard to beat at home; they are a very powerful team and there is no doubt about that. He said that their bowling has not quite hit its fastening yet the batting is very good. He estimated that Sri Lanka might defeat New Zealand and thinks that India beats Pakistan; and if this happens it might end up with a great game of cricket between India and Sri Lanka.

Ricky stated about his team views and upon their bowlers that, before they leave with Nathan Huritz going down and Xavier Doherty went down as well; they did not have any other spinning options they could take away with them. He added that Shaun Tait was the best pick for the last World cup where was Brett Lee was the pick of their bowlers through the summer.

Ricky Ponting said that everyday he had to wake up and give the answers for different questions about being frustrated, about being over there and also about what the team was doing or what he was doing. He concluded that it is certainly not about that but he was over there to enjoy the World Cup for what it was and trying to get the best performances out of the team every day.

Sri Lanka will meet New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2011 at Premadasa Stadium at Colombo and India meets Pakistan in the second semi-final of the tournament at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium at Mohali, Chandigarh.

Does the prediction of the Ricky Ponting will be true? Will India meets Sri Lanka in the finals of the World Cup tournament?
