At The Oscars, the dresses worn by those in attendance are much sought after. So is the hairstyle to go with it. The outfit could be the hardest thing to choose but the hairstyle to accompany it is almost as difficult when you are going to the Oscars. There seems to be a lot of similar looking hairstyles with little changes hitting the awards this time. This 84th Oscars saw exactly the same phenomenon.

Braids and Buns

Celebrities were wearing their hair in buns at this years Oscars. Loose buns seemed very popular but there was still some classic tight buns walking the carpet as well. J Lo had a big, loose bun but the hair on her head was slicked back tight. Rooney Mara left her cute, short bangs in her face however the tight bun was right against her head. Emma Stone chose a wind-blown bun look with loose wispy hair leading into the bun and all around. Some other highlights included braids leading into the buns and unique bun wraps that gave the hairstyle a lot of depth.

Fancy hair tends to mean an up-do but this year some people chose to unwind the standards, like Sandra Bullock. Pulled back from her face, her hair was all in the back with a long, elegant ponytail that showed off the length of the hair. This look tends to be easy to maintain and gives a nice finished look to an outfit without being super formal. This sort of sleek ponytail was seen on the few heads at the Oscars and was prominent at the Grammy's this year and this is a hairstyle you can do at home easily.

Waves, for Those Who Like a Risk

Wearing your hair down is a sure way to shun convention and many women at the Oscars chose just this type of hairstyle. This typically has meant going stick straight or crazy with curls in the past, but this year the hair tended to fall in gorgeous waves. Some were half-up dos like Kate Mara or Milla Jovovich while others sported their waves all the way down like Angelina Jolie and Stacy Keibler. Jolie made more of a statement with her leg, but her wavy hair framed her lovely face perfectly. Overall the waves seemed elegant while not being so structured. Kate Mara's use of a gorgeous clip to pull up the bottom of her hair loosely, allowed the waves to fall to her shoulders. The ends of all these hairstyles give a loose, wavy appeal to the way the hairstyle cascades from the head. Overall the wavy hairstyles seemed to be a huge success for the night and the girls all won wave reviews for their choices
