There comes a time in everyone's life when they start to enjoy a lot more free time

. It's often later on when either the kids finally leave or retirement beckons, but it means that we need to find something to do. This article looks at a few of our options.

Golf

Few people who struggle for spare time choose to spend it playing golf, but by the time they are given a retirement watch and are ushered out of the office for the last time it seems to become an obsession, almost as if there's some sort of mass-psychosis involved with the sport and doctors, lawyers and accountants.

Of course, if it is something that interests you then it would make plenty of sense to go for it - invest in getting some lessons as it's a strangely difficult sport to master and join a club. What many people enjoy about the game is that it's tremendously sociable, and because it's catnip to pensioners there are likely to plenty of likeminded and similarly aged people with whom to while away your last few hours in this world. If you become really good at it you could even take it to the next level and enter competitions and the like.

Hot Air Ballooning

Going on a hot air balloon ride is a once in a lifetime activity for a lot of people, but for a few it can become their passion - and it's easy to see why. On initial flights you'll start to enjoy the scenery beneath you and the feeling of being in the midst of just so much fresh air, but as you become more experienced you could feel a strong enough interest to learn how to be so much more than a passenger: you'll want to become a pilot.

Of course, for the obvious safety reasons you can't just hire a balloon and take it up into the skies on your own, you need to become qualified but this in itself can be enjoyable and is probably quite like learning to sail at several hundred feet. And once you have qualified it means you can treat your friends and family to many memorable afternoons together.
