Portable Cb Radios

If you're old enough, you remember the heyday of the CB radio

. Just about everyone had one of these trucker's radios in their cars, with neat handles like, Mama on the Moveand so on. Whether you remember those days or you don't, you probably think CB radios have become as extinct as dinosaurs, the transistor radio, or the vinyl record.

If you think that, though, you'd be wrong. In fact, CB radios are still in use daily, alive and well, and gaining in popularity. They remain a good communication device for many people, whether for business or personal use. Although cell phones are probably more popular than Citizen Bands radios, they're also more expensive, which means portable CB radios have a definite market niche that nothing else can serve.

The tried and true CB radio, or citizens band radio, is something that regular, everyday citizens can use. Usually, these radios are installed in vehicles, and will attach to an antenna on the vehicle so that it will get service. It receives power from the car's battery, and although convenient to use, can't be used outside of the car.

Today, though, there are also portable CB radios. These portable Citizen Bandsradios can be taken anywhere you go, and look similar to those used by law enforcement, in that they can be held in the hand and simply carried on your person.

Portable CB radios work like their traditional car installed counterparts, in that you can communicate with other people on Citizen Bands radios whenever you want to. There is a small fee to pay to communicate with people on the same frequency as you are, but this fee is small in comparison to a cell phone bill; therefore, a portable CB radio in particular can be a better and more cost effective option than a cell phone, depending on the situation. Additionally, you don't have to pay for a monthly plan, and you don't have to worry about being in range or out of service of a particular cell phone tower. Instead, because the CB radio works with your antenna, you're good to go no matter where you are.

Portable CB radios can be a good cost effective alternative to cell phones, or they can be a good adjunct to cell phone usage if you do want a cell phone but want a more basic service that's cheaper. Instead of paying for unlimited minutes you can opt for a pay-as-you-go option that's the least expensive for those times when you do have to use a cell phone, and then use portable Citizen Bands radios as a cheaper option for everything else.

Portable CB radios are also safety devices. Because you can call for help on them, and because they work wherever you are (never out of service), portable Citizen Bands radios can also help you stay safe.

Finally, they are simply a fun way to communicate with other CB radio enthusiasts. This is a hobby that has never died down, but more importantly, it's also a very important method of communication.
