Portability does not only refer to the size and shape of the gadget but with its capability to play its role which is to be a television.

For low-end hand held portable TVs, you can have as good as three to six hours of viewing. For the higher ends, the power supply can last up to more than 24 hours. For most tablet type portable TVs, the power can also last up to 30 hours. Since this type uses an energy efficient mechanism like LCD and low-consuming crystals unlike light emitting diodes or LED which consumes almost double the energy, you are sure to have more time for watching.

However, always remember that the power supply also rely on the operation or term of usage, and the charging time. It is natural for batteries to go down faster if your sound is through the speakers and not a headset. Likewise, the color requirements of every show also use different levels of power. Brighter ones tend to drain the battery faster. Batteries also perform the best under minimal charging cycle. Some portable TVs can perform like brand new for up to 300 charging. More than that can decrease the capacity of the battery to store more power.

Portable TVs have changed through the years since the first introduction in the market. Their designs have changed to the more edgy ones. Materials also improved. From using plastic, metal is now the favorite cover. Screens also evolved drastically. From a regular LED monitor which consumes more energy but with lower picture quality, LCD portable TVs are now the norm. Battery life is no longer blinking at the end of only one TV show. You can do a marathon as a matter of fact. But with all the apparent changes in manufacturing portable TVs, do their lifespan automatically improved as well?

There are many factors affecting the lifespan of portable players. Here are some of those which you do not expect to be big influences at all.

1. Materials

Sturdier materials used nowadays are dust-free, water-resistant (as opposed to waterproof models) and most importantly, shockproof. Without these qualities, dirt can easily accumulate inside the device and cause some problems. Water can get inside with just a drop and even moist can destroy the screen quality. Shocks when you accidentally drop or bump the device can instantly dilapidated all portable TVs. Thanks to better materials which are often patented by companies, you can now enjoy your gadget longer.

2. Applications

TVs with many applications and downloading capability like the current tablets can also decrease lifespan. They are not computers to store so many programs. If a regular computer crashes with them, what more for portable TVs. That is not their nature.

3. Energy sources

Fluctuations of energy when charging can damage the unit so be sure to have stable electrical flow in the socket. Likewise, many people mistakenly use there devices even while charging. Doing this can speed up the battery's life.
