Portable Technology Today

Are you old enough to remember a time when there was such a thing as a busy signal and nobody had an answering machine attached to their telephone

? That certainly is not the case today and we are not only using technology on the go, we are using it for more and more purposes. As a matter of fact, most of us are never out of touch and although this can be frustrating in some cases, it also has many benefits to it as well. What are some of the different types of mobile technology that are available and how can you use them to your advantage?

Perhaps the most commonly thought of type of mobile technology is the cellular telephone. These are not only a device that helps us to make phone calls on the go, they can now help us to do a variety of items which require a computer. For example, if you are out and about and need a telephone number, you can simply look it up on the Internet using your telephone. You can also communicate via chat, text message and even video calls. Of course, the amount that you spend on your cell phone has probably increased substantially in recent years as well. This is especially the case if you are now using a smart phone as opposed to using a regular cell phone which only takes calls.

Another type of portable technology that we use regularly is the laptop. It wasn't all that long ago that laptop computers were very expensive and most people did not own them. Today, people work primarily on laptops, both when they are on the go as well as when they are stationary in their office. A laptop allows many people to work outside of the office as well, connecting in using networks in a variety of locations and some of the better mobile technology that is available.

Mobile technology can also be used for very specific purposes, such as the environmental management software that is used by many geotechnical engineering firms. They are able to put people into the field using the right type of software and mobile devices and they can tie into the main computer via a network. There are many other businesses which also use this type of technology to get the information that they need almost instantly, after it is available in the field.

The way that society has become more and more mobile is not only a benefit to those who work in an office and need to be on the run, it is beneficial for those of us who need to use it in our day-to-day lives as well. It certainly does have the ability to save us time but it also can be something that takes a lot of our time as well. If you use this type of technology regularly, make sure that you take a little bit of time away from it and by all means, make sure that you know how to deal with individuals one on one without a cell phone in between the two of you.
