to small businesses as they increase the efficiency of their mailing systems and reduce operating expenses, save time, and resources. It helps you avoid trips to the post office.
Postage meters like any other machine can develop problems or even break down. While federal regulations authorize the repair and maintenance of postage machines by approved vendors and personnel only, basic problems can be easily corrected by you. This article talks about a few of the most frequent problems encountered and suggestions on how to correct them. Instructions are given keeping the Pitney Bowes postage meter in mind - the leading supplier in the market.
Display not turning on
If the display screen of the postage meter does not come on, check if the:
* equipment is plugged in properly
* batteries are inserted correctly
* device is in inactive mode
When a postage meter is not used for some time, it goes into sleep mode and its indicator light turns yellow. Hit any button to bring the postage meter to active mode again.
Display is on but text is not visible
If the display monitor appears blank, check the contrast. Go to the main menu on the postage meter and select 'Options', next select 'Adjust the contrast'. Increase or decrease the contrast for better visibility.
Issue with printing
If the postage meter cannot print labels properly, check if:
* paper is jammed in the printing deck. If it is, follow the instructions in user guide to clear it.
* the printer cartridge needs to be replaced. If so, replace the cartridge by accessing the cartridge guard, removing out the old and sliding in the new one.
Bad print quality
If the printer is working but the print quality is poor, you should recheck the cartridge to see if it has dried up. If that is not the case, you should purge the nozzles of the printer. This can be done by going to the main menu and selecting 'Options'. Look for 'Advanced Features', select 'Maintenance Mode'. Here, select the 'Printer Maintenance' menu option. Under this section, you will see the 'Purge' option. Selecting this purges the printer nozzles.
Issues with connectivity
Sometimes, the postage meter cannot connect to the Data Center to print postage on labels. This can be a network or connectivity issue. Check the phone line is functioning and that you have access to the internet service. If you rely on a DSL connection, you might need to set up a filter between the wall unit and the phone line.
Software related issues
Software based postal meter solutions help you manage your mailing configurations. If there is any mismatch between the actual and anticipated results, verify the configurations in the 'Internet Settings' in the Data Center. You can try going back to the default settings and customize the software to your needs again.
These easy to follow guidelines can help you out with ordinary problems that you encounter with your postage meters. This saves you from relying on a technician for such small problems. You should have to fall back on them only for issues that cannot be corrected by you.
