Postcard Printing for the Young Ones
The concept of postcard printing is not exactly new. In fact, postcards were here for a century already. Our grandparents and parents have been sending and receiving postcards. A testament to that are bundles of these materials on their memory boxes or those old stocks that have been tacked on refrigerator doors and cork boards. These postcards hold a special place in their hearts as these are a reminder of time lost. These also serve as a keeper of memories.
Before the age of text messaging, sending emails, Facebook and other social networking sites which allow anyone to upload and publish pictures in real time, postcards enabled our forebears to know where their friends or family members are and what they have seen. These postcards were also deliverances of hellos and goodbyes, of take cares and good tidings. At the back of postcards is a portion in which the sender can write their messages and S.O.S's long hand.
These days, the charm of postcard printing is not yet lost. At specialty stores and airport lobbies, you can still see postcards for sale. Although there are people who prefer sending photographs and messages online, there is still a market for postcards - and these are not just our grandparents or parents and their generations. These can also apply for the young ones!
Postcard printing can be likened to an art project. You start with intent: to send a custom-made postcard for someone who is close to your heart - your parents, friends, girlfriends or boyfriends on their birthdays, on special occasions, or even just on ordinary days when you want them to feel loved. You can send postcards any time, on good or bad weather.
Once you have set your intent, you can now proceed with your design idea. Do you have a theme in mind? How about keeping into consideration the receiver's likes and interests: sports, music, photography, art, film, and books, etc? You can incorporate any of those into your postcards. Make draft of your postcard on a piece of paper. It is okay to experiment with any possible theme and have countless of design ideas and rough drafts. You should remember that postcard printing has to be fun. Take your time organizing your ideas. Keep the end in mind: to make the receiver appreciate your postcard and like it as much as you want them to be.
Using design software available on your desktop computer, start making your postcard template. Insert an image, modify text, change background color, add graphics, and redo framing - the choice is yours. Make the most out of your design software to create a beautiful postcard. Once you are finished, select a heavy stock paper and then print a test page. If you are satisfied with the result, print the final design and then write your message by hand - or by print, if you like. Anyone who receives your postcard will surely like it as you spent your time and effort in coming up with a postcard which has a specially written message at the back.
