Postgraduate Study: Is It Really What You Need?

Live and learn. It is a very good saying. However, does it presuppose postgraduate study? Do all people need it? In fact, any person lives and learns even without a college or university since he/she gains some new experience every day. Some people may argue that there can be no arguments to start working instead of starting your postgraduate study. Well, there are several points.

1.First of all, any education needs finance. Postgraduate study is far from being cheap. So, if you do not have considerable financial support, you should think twice before starting your postgraduate study.

2.If you think that you will prolong your carefree study years which were characterized by great parties and having fun, you can be disappointed. Postgraduate study presupposes hard work. Your masters (and especially doctoral degree) will consume a lot of time and efforts. You will simply have no time for entertainment.

3.If you do not really like to study, all those researches and academic writings, maybe, you should concentrate on practice implementing the knowledge you already gained. You can be successful without some doctoral degree.

4.It is a myth that doctoral degree will help you to find a well-paid job. In fact, some professions do not require such high academic experience. Moreover, some companies avoid employing postgraduates since the former believe that the latter have too high demands as for salary.

5.Sometimes after a few years of their work students see that they are not satisfied with that very qualification. They become eager to change it. Postgraduate study is a very good chance for such maneuver. Thus, you may start your career and check whether it is what you really want to do in your life. If the answer is no, you can start your postgraduate study. In any case it is never too late to go to college or university.
