Potential Hazards At Work Prevented

Have you ever thought about how dangerous a knife can be when you are cutting a sandwich

? What if you went to cut a sandwich and had your hand in the way. That could cause severe damage to your hand. What about a moving belt with equipment on it that you are checking for quality control? The danger of getting your hand caught on the moving belt can be pretty dangerous. What about a construction job site where you are just laying carpet and kneeling on the ground tacking it down? Have you stopped to think about driving a company vehicle and the safety precautions that you need to take to protect yourself and the vehicle? Maybe backing up in a company vehicle could be more dangerous due to how big the vehicle is.

What about the job of a custodian? Do you see any dangers of being a custodian? Maybe mixing different chemicals to clean different things or mopping a floor and recognizing how slippery the floor can really be. Another place that many might not think about any dangers is in a lab. What dangers could possibly be contained in working in a lab? Maybe it is the combination of different products being mixed together or if you are working with blood then you wouldn't want to touch any of the blood.

Reading all of these different scenarios you might be thinking that only someone who really didn't know what they were doing would get hurt doing some of these things. It might even seem like if people didn't have enough common sense to know these things they shouldn't be working in that specific industry. Take a minute and think about where you work. What things do you take for granted that could potentially be a hazard?

One thing that is very important to recognize is that accidents are called accidents due to them not being planned and that there is potential for bad things to happen at every job. We would like to think that we are smarter than the average person, but what is more important is to think about these things and recognize that most people are smart, but not smarter than a potential accident.

One of the best things that most companies can do for their employees is to have them watch different safety videos on their specific industry. The more information that people have about their job the smarter they can be. This will help them strive to prevent potential accidents from happening. It might seem funny and not really necessary, but won't you be glad that you watched that safety video when something bad potentially could have happened or it does happen to a co-worker and you were able to prevent it.
