A popular line of inexpensive cordless outdoor power tools is Power Glide. For outdoor building and property maintenance tasks, they provide good value for the money. The Power Glide family of cordless tools includes a single-speed reversing drill driver, hedge trimmer, string trimmer, screwdriver and grass shear.

Drill Driver

Power Glide manufactures a cordless drill driver. The unit is powered by a 19.2-volt rechargable Hitachi drill battery, which powers the single-speed reversing motor. The unit is also equipped with a keyless 3/8-inch chuck. When working in an isolated location, well out of the reach of extension cords, it is useful for building a deck, removing a rotted stair tread, socking up loose hex-head fasteners on a steel-sided building or general automotive repairs. You can usually purchase replacement or additional batteries from the same retailer selling the tool itself.

String Trimmer

For trimming along walks, garden borders or places where the lawn mower simply cannot maneuver, Power Glide also manufacturers a cordless string trimmer. The unit is equipped with an 18-volt rechargeable Ni-Cd Makita cordless drill battery, and will cut a 10-inch swath through weeds or long grass. The battery is capable of supporting 25 to 30 minutes of continuous operation at 1000 rpm. As with other Power Glide cordless tools, recharging normally requires 3 to 5 hours.

Hedge Trimmer

For the general trimming of shrubs and small bushes, Power Glide offers a cordless hedge trimmer. Powered by an 18-volt rechargeable Ni-Cd battery, the units feature a 25 to 30 minute operating time with reciprocating blades, which will operate at a maximum speed of 1500 rpm. The cutting teeth are spaced at 3/8-inch intervals. Like several other Power Glide cordless tools, the recharging time for the battery is 3 to 5 hours.

Grass Shears

For city dwellers with small yards and minimal trimming requirements, a Power Glide cordless grass shear may be all that's needed to address their trimming tasks. The units are capable of operating at a maximum speed of 650 rpm, with a maximum run-time of about 45 minutes. The shears feature a 3-inch cutting width, and are rechargeable in 3 to 5 hours.
