Power Supplies Over Data Cables
Although wireless networks and connections are possibly the best invention ever
, there are always two sides to the coin. Having to avoid additional wires running along the floor and tripping someone up as well as additional and unsightly hacking to walls are some positive points. Some of its disadvantages however feature themselves in inaccessibility due to natural and artificial obstructions as well as invaders and hackers tapping into the air space.
To address the aforementioned, it seemed a logical move to consider running an Ethernet connection through existing electrical wiring. As power supplies one's residence or office with electrical energy, it can also function as a channel for data to be transported within the vicinity of the premise. This certainly reinforces the factor on security as well as increases the geography for network access. There is also practically no degradation in network strength as power is constantly switched on unless there is an interruption from the main supply.
Attach a special adapter to the modem or router to connect to the internet. This adapter is then plugged into the wall's power socket to set up the network via the location's power cables. Depending on where the computers or peripheral devices are located, adapters of similar kind are then plugged into the closest power sockets on the walls and connected to these devices. Once everything is connected, a local area network is formed without the need for messy cable configurations, hubs and switches. In the event there is still need for a wireless network, one can be easily set up.
Alternatively, there is also the capability to utilize existing cables for Ethernet connection as conduits to power supplies. Similar benefits as abovementioned include no additional wiring as data and power run over the same physical infrastructure. It is recommended to check regional standards on power and data cabling to avoid untoward incidents such as burning out devices connected to the network, overheating cables, short circuits and fires.
