Practise Shaping Your Shots
Though it's not as easy as it used to be because modern balls are designed to fly straighter, it's important for professionals to be able to shape their shots for the modern golf courses we play.
For example, at Whistling Straits, where the US PGA was held last week, many of the holes had Lake Michigan immediately on the left or right depending on which direction we were playing. And with the holes often cut on the green nearest the water's edge, it was too dangerous trying to draw or fade them back from that side.
Callaway FT-I Driver represents a quantum leap in driver design. With the revolutionary 460cc Complete Inertial Design, the FT-i Driverpushes the boundaries of shape, of our imagination, of the rules. This design precisely positions weight to the extreme corners of the clubhead, producing an incredibly high Moment of Inertia.
Callaway's largest, hottest CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness. Also incorporated is the OptiFit Weighting System that produces the optimal center of gravity configuration.
I didn't really want to start my shots over the water and try to hook or fade them into the green, so I had to use my ability to shape shots. I had to hit a little fade into a right pin when the water was on the right or a draw into a left pin when the water was on the left.
Callaway FT-i 25th Aniversery Driver is only available in the lofts and flexes that appear. Taking unconventional thinking and having it blossom into equipment that helps make every golfer a better golfer was the driving force for ElyCallaway.
So I always recommend to amateurs at my clinics that it's very sensible to use some time on the practice range to learn different shots like a high fade or high draw, low fade or low draw rather than just trying to hit driver over the fence at the back of your range. Experiment with ball position and learn how each shot feels and how you can work it, even a little bit through the air.
Aim your shoulders and feet a little right and close the clubface a bit (aimed at the target) to hit a draw and aim your shoulders and feet a little left with the clubface open a touch to hit Callaway FT-5 Driver . By positioning the ball forward or back in your stance you can combined these actions with hitting high or low.
Once you've mastered different shots off the first tee, for example, you might even predict what kind of shots your friends are going to hit. It will give you a psychological advantage because you have spotted their weak point and they won't be able to help themselves doing it all the time!
