Prague Hotels - A Guide To Hotel Locations In The City

In recent years, Prague has exploded onto the scene as one of the top destinations in Europe

. The beautiful Czech capital is a mecca for visitors who come to explore its history, marvel at its architecture, take advantage of excellent shopping and enjoy its renowned nightlife and party scene.

The charming city of Prague with its gold tipped towers, domes, bridges and cathedrals, is located on the beautiful Vltava River. The city is divided into 'Praha' or districts and are numbers 1 to 10. Praha 1, 2 and 3 are the most popular districts.

The very heart of Prague is the Praha 1 district. This is the tourist hub of the city as you'll find historic city quarters located here like; Hradany (where the castle is located), Mal Strana (the Lesser town close to the castle), Josefov (Jewish town) Stare Mesto (the Old Town) and Nov Mesto (New Town).

If you choose a hotel in Praha 1 then you'll just be within steps of top Prague attractions like the magical Prague Castle - one of the most impressive castles in the world! Soak up the atmosphere of the Old Town Square and watch the Astronomical Clock do its thing at the top of the hour! The Old Town Hall, the Old Town Bridge Tower and the Municipal House are also located here. The Old Town Square is a UNESCO listed site due to its mixture of gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture that is evident here.

The Lesser Town is also located in Praha 1. At the heart of the Lesser Town is the beautiful Lesser Town Square where you'll find the magnificent baroque St.Nicholas Church.

Nov Mesto (New Town) is home to the city's famous boulevard - Wenceslas Square. This is actually a wide thoroughfare lined with shops, bars, restaurants and historic sights like the Czech National Museum.

Josefov (the Jewish town) can be found in Praha 1.It boasts wonderful medieval narrow streets and is famous for its well-preserved historical synagogues. It has some world-renowned synagogues located here like the 'Old New Synagogue' and the Spanish Synagogue.

The Praha 2 district incorporates part of the New Town and the Vyehrad district. The Vyehrad district is home to the Vyehrad Castle built on hill overlooking the River Vtava. Like Praha 1 it has lots of shops, restaurants, caf and bars.

The Praha 3 district is home to Zizkov which is about 1km from the city centre. It is mainly a residential area that is well connected to the city centre and is home to sights like the Concert Hall, the TV Tower, the Military Cemetery and War Memorial and Church of Saint Roch - one of the oldest churches in Prague.

There's no doubt that the Praha 1 - Praha 3 districts are the most popular with visitors to Prague.

Praha 1 hotels especially those in Mala Strana and the Stare Mesto tend to be pricey especially during the peak season of Easter, the summer months and Christmas.

However, if you want to get away from the crowded busy city atmosphere then choose hotels in the suburbs. Zizkov and Vinohrady (just east of Nove Mesto) are ideal if you want to be located within easy travel distance from the city center. These areas are still very tourist orientated and there are plenty of Prague hotels located here.
