Pregnancy and Bacterial Vaginosis - What Effects May BV Have On Your Chances of Pregnancy in the Present or Future

I have suffered with BV for almost two years now and I am becoming concerned about

what effects this may have on my chances of pregnancy in the present or future. I have never been pregnant and have no children but would like at least one within the next 3-5 years. I have been given every medicine out there for BV but it keeps coming back. I have even tried natural remedies and nothing has worked so far.

I have been tested for everything under the sun and I am clean (so is my partner). I know that BV does strange things to my body during the month; however I would like to know if it will affect my chances of conceiving in the future. I am healthy besides this mysterious BV infection. When I tell my doctor, she is of no help and neither are her colleagues because most do not know what even causes this. Are there any other women that have or are experiencing the same thing and have been successful in becoming pregnant?

I was a chronic sufferer of BV before this unplanned pregnancy. I am also clean as is my partner. When it occurs, have you previously had a lot of sex? I would always get it whenever my partner and I had sex every day for 2 weeks or more. If we had sex less frequently I wouldn't get it. Someone once told me it is because the vagina is acidic and sperm is considered "basic" and will mess with the PH acidity levels in your vagina.

Once I got pregnant I got BV once more and it disappeared on its own. I have not gotten BV anymore in my 6-7 months of pregnancy even with frequent sex. It might be a pregnant thing.

My doc was not helpful as far as my BV with pregnancy is concerned but did told me to urinate and possibly even wash the area after sex and that seemed to help too. This doesn't answer your question on conception but may help you in preventing it.
