Prepare Your Swimming Pool For Winter

The summer is over and you have to spend more time indoors

. The good new is that there will always be a next warm season during which you can enjoy your swimming pool even more. In order to ensure the safety and fun of the bathers, you have to prepare the pool for the winter appropriately.

The task is not difficult and time consuming. Just follow these steps and you will get the right results.

As a start, you have to prepare all the equipment and materials you will need for the winterizing of your swimming pool. You will need a skimmer net and a cleaning device. You can use a brush or a vacuum depending on which you have at home. You have to have all the chemicals necessary for the treatment of your pool. Check them to make sure they are not past their expiration date. You will need a special anti-freeze which can be found in most home and garden stores. Most importantly, you will need an inground pool cover. There are different types available on the market. You can choose between solid and mesh inground pool covers, so make sure you select the right one given the weather conditions in your area.

The first thing you have to do in order to prepare your swimming pool for the winter is to clean it thoroughly. Remove all the leaves and larger debris with the skimmer net. Then scrub the bottom and the walls. You have to pay special attention to the corners and the area around the steps.

Wipe all algae spots, if any. Add chemicals for the removal of these, if they are abundant. Clean the filer of your pool as well using the specific method appropriate for your facility.

You have to sanitize your pool with all the appropriate chemicals after taking a sample from the water. Make sure the alkalinity and the pH are in tact.

This is applicable to the calcium and chlorine levels as well. You can use a stronger sanitizing solution if you feel this is necessary.

Finally, reduce the water level. This is necessary for the optimal use of inground swimming pool covers.
