Prepare Your Walls For Painting
Home painting isnt just applying some paint on your walls theres more to it than that
. Your walls need to be prepared first, and then primed and finally painted on. The first thing to do is filling up any holes that your walls have. You might have nailed something to the walls, or used screws for something, and these would undoubtedly have left their mark. You can fill up the holes with spackle. Once youve fill the holes, give enough time for the spackle to dry haste will simply ruin your walls. After theyve dried, you can use sandpaper on your walls. This is to get rid of the rough edges your walls would have because of the spackle. But just so that your wall painting is smooth, flat and even make sure you sand the whole wall. After sanding, you need to clean the walls of any dust that mightve been left behind. Dust tends to weaken the walls ability to hold paints, so this isnt a step you want to skip.
Cleaning is rather simple; you just need to use soap solution and water to get rid of any dirt or grime on your walls. Wash your walls and then wipe down with plain water to get rid of the soap. Leaving soapy patches is a sure shot recipe for disaster. Make sure you allow enough time for your walls to dry before you move on to the next step. Priming is the last step before you actually start painting. Priming helps your wall paints to adhere strongly to your walls. It also helps to cover up spackled areas, so that it isnt obvious after youve painted over the wall. Avoid water based primers if you happen to have left over wall paper from the last home make-over. This will only make the wall paper have bubbles, which will cause problems when you begin your wall painting. Again, make sure that you give your walls enough time to dry before you begin your work.
Once youre done with priming, all you need to do is pick the right colour paints for your walls. You can decide which colours to pick depending on the colour scheme you want your home to have, but remember that they shouldnt clash with each other. So now that you know how to paint your walls so that they last long, all you need to do is figure out a pattern for your home! Go on and unleash your creativity!
