However, there is always a chance that this could in fact happen, and if your package isn't ready for it, the results could be very unpleasant.

The first thing you need to worry about when packing for cross border shipping is how breakable your goods are. If they're durable, paper, or something which can't be broken, then you don't have much to worry about. If not though, you need to make sure that they are protected. Wrap all goods securely. Make sure that the box isn't packed to tightly so that things don't just fall out when it is opened. Also, be sure to clearly mark which side of all packages is "up".

Next, you want to make sure that anything that you pack which is going across a border can be repacked easily enough. If your package is opened and it is difficult to repack because it was too tightly originally packaged, you will often find that things get broken, or even lost, in the rush to repack. Be sure that it would be easy for anyone to repack a package like this.

Finally, you should also worry about your packages documentation. You want to make sure, for instance, that if there is a shipping label on the outside of the package that there is a duplicate on the inside as well. That is because when packages are getting examined they are often treated roughly, which could damage the initial shipping label.
