Any softball player is prone to having an injury when his muscles are not prepared to strenuous activity such as softball hitting. All of your muscles are needed in softball hitting. And if your muscles are not prepared to move from such vigorous activities then the tendency is for it to be turn or to be hurt. In short, muscles which are not exercised before the training or before the game will have more chances to be injured.

Therefore, as a softball coach, you should not only incorporate varied softball hitting drills and exercises in your training. Your plan of activities should also include different warming up approaches. Take not of the word different. Your team should be doing varied warming up exercises in their everyday training. This is will not only make your players happy and motivated but this will also help a lot in preparing their muscles.

During the old days, stretching exercises are considered the best warming up drills. But such form of exercises can give you pain after the activity. Today, cardio vascular exercises are the best warming up approach every softball player must include in their training. The good thing about cardio vascular exercise is that it can prepare all the parts of your body especially the one which is very important in softball hitting. Also, you can do these forms of exercises by group.

Yes, your warming up drills should not be necessarily done individually. It will be more fun for your players if you will make it as a game. Since team building is important in softball, this will be a perfect approach to build good rapport among your team members. You will surely motivate your players to become energetic in your training if you have started the training right.


Training must not be very serious. Yes, you should encourage your players to take the training seriously but not too the point that you will act as a dictator. It is ok to make your training fun and exciting because they will give added energy to your players. This will also make them very excited in your next training.

Softball hitting is one of the skills that you should exert your effort in order to learn. But, training without any warming up drills will be useless. Varied softball hitting drills no matter how effective they are will not make your players a good softball hitter if their body is not well prepared to undergo such complicated drills.

Since there are various forms of exercises which you can use as your warm up, you have to choose the one that will fit your players.
